Suppose a runaway planet suddenly passes between the earth and the moon and unleashes cosmic destruction. Civilization is cast in ruin and the earth as we know it is reborn as a strange new world of savagery, super science and sorcery. Could you handle life as a post-apocalyptic proto-barbarian constantly defending yourself from terrible mutants and shapeshifting demon-beasts? If you think you can, then you (like me) probably listen to more than the normal amount of metal. If you don’t, you really should probably start preparing yourself. After all you never know when Ragnaraök is coming to ruin your whole weekend.
…What are you waiting for? Saddle up for a full 10 song dose of skull-crushing, flame-licked, testicle-quaking, over-hyphenated METAL. Survive if you can.

Are you an artist? Are you exhausted by the stultifying trivialities of the modern world? Do you drink expensive coffee in shabby cafés? Do you explore the intangible truths through tangible abstractions? Do you cut your own hair? How is your screenplay coming along? Is Haikuesday the new Cinquainsday?
Take a quick break from working on your next installation and get your haiku on in the comments. It’ll be good for your chakras or whatever, and if no one understands it, then that just proves how truly important it is, right?

Last night’s episode of Ax Men was preempted due to a marathon of some bogus and entirely ill-conceived spin-off about people who live in the swamps of Louisiana, cleverly titled Swamp People. Um…History Channel…we already have a swamp person. His name is Shelby Stanga and we’re quite content. Please do not fuck with a well laid plan.
So, to take the place of my Ax Men fix, I turned to a long lost love with whom I’ve been meaning to rekindle the flame: comic books. On the recommendation of my twitter compadre, Liz Lee, I picked up a series by Mark Millar and Steve McNiven titled Nemesis. It was…intense.

In case you were wondering, no, I’m not going to the movies this weekend. But it’s not because the theaters are only showing ridiculous movies I don’t want to see. This time they are showing a ridiculous movie that I actually do kind of want to see.

Sucker Punch is basically about a young girl living in the dream world of her imagination in order to escape the harshness of her reality. It is also about swordfights, explosions, high kicks in skirts and a dragon. Read more »
