It’s Friday, so that means it’s time again to pick apart a movie that I haven’t actually seen and don’t plan on seeing without the intervention of my cable service provider.

Here’s a quick list of some shit I’m into: Werewolves, Gary Oldman, Strong Creature Violence and yeah, even Fever Ray. …So you can imagine my confusion when after I watched this trailer I wasn’t even a little bit stoked. Read more »

At this point, jumping on the @charliesheen bandwagon has become cost of entry for anyone in the media. Even McDonald’s couldn’t help but dip their chubby little toes in the tigerblood. At this point, though, I’m actually a little concerned. Not for Charlie’s health or anything. I mean, come on let’s face it, the dude is an F-18 rockstar warlock with Adonis DNA. Much like matter, Charlie can be neither created nor destroyed. Also like matter, though, he could soon easily disappear from sight into the state of relative obscurity that results from a society with ADHD.
My mix this week is a veiled homage (see if you can spot the connection in each song) to the man who, in my opinion, is shining a coke mirror on our society and showing us the insanity and narcissism we breed with childlike glee, only to mock with the same fervor. It’s a cautionary tale, if you will. One that Charlie Sheen is reading aloud to us as we sit Indian-style in a circle around him and suck our greasy thumbs.

You Left Me Sore – Todd Rundgren
Zebra – Beach House
Will Do – TV on the Radio
The Line – Noah and the Whale
This Must Be the Place (Naïve Melody) – Talking Heads
Omega Dog – The Dears
Behold The Wolf – Summerbirds in the Cellar
Ask Her to Dance – Coconut Records
And Then You Kissed Me II – The Cardigans
A Million Years – Alexander

I hope Charlie can truly WIN and stay relevant just to spite the beast who created him. Love him or hate him, the man did free us of the vile torture that was Two and a Half Men (hopefully for good).

Are you a sit-downer or a stand-upper? Do you give up your seat for pregnant old people? Do you read other people’s books looming over their shoulders while silently judging them, listening to your obscure songs and obscure bands who have names that are impossible to pronounce? Are you a stairway farter?
Why doncha post a haiku about it? I mean, it is Haikuesday…

Last night’s Ax Men was filled with the kind of raw emotion usually reserved for nose-to-nose confrontations between Gabe and DJ Jeremiah on the Rygaard site. For some it was the end of the season, for others only the beginning, and for Shelby Stanga it was just another excuse to shout “HERE WE GO!” before diving into dangerously shallow water. There were also plenty of gratuitous shots of this dude’s makeshift bionic arm.

I love the experience of going to the movies, but not that many films come out worth paying $20 and having to listen to the greasy, fat guy behind you clip his nails. So, like many of you, I end up waiting for most movies to show up on Netflix. Some movies, though, look so terrible, I will only watch them on a Sunday afternoon after I’ve taken non-drowsy cold medicine and already watched 3 episodes of Ice Road Truckers. I refer to these movies as: Maybe On Cables. Read more »

Most of the time it’s the Track Ones or the Last Tracks that get all the glory, but since this week’s Thr’sday falls on March 3rd (03/03) it seemed fitting that I direct the ol’ spotlight in favor of the lowly, but honorable Track Threes.
I know what you’re thinking. How will this mish-mash at all fit together to form some coherent semblance? These songs are meant for a specific place and order! Tertiary! Second-most to the second-most! Chaos is sure to follow such blind disregard! …And to you I say, asuage your doubts, you scrabblers of linearity! It’s fine. Relax. Why are you talking like that? You sound like community theatre. Anyway, please enjoy the full-blown gimmick of this mix.

Tree By The River – Iron & Wine
Skeleton Man – Evangelicals
Fireman – Jawbreaker
I Can’t Wait – Twin Shadow
A Shot in the Arm – Wilco
Little By Little – Radiohead
Whole Lotta Losin’ – Monsters of Folk
Revival – Deerhunter
Don’t Look Back – She & Him
“Heroes” – David Bowie

Although “Celebration Day” from Led Zeppelin III seemed like an obvious choice, it is not featured in this mix. If you would like to file a complaint about that, please use the comment section below. The Cheap Thriller welcomes your dissent.
